Jim Byrnes Biography

Jim Byrnes was born September 22, 1948, in St. Louis, Missouri, the middle child of a middle class family. He grew up on the rough and tumble St. Louis north side. At age thirteen Jim Byrnes was singing and playing blues guitar. He studied acting at Boston University and St. Louis University. He did a tour of duty in Vietnam

In 1972 Jim suffered a debilitating accident in which he lost both of his legs. Despite the overwhelming obstacles, however, he came back to do several  TV shows and films including the very popular series Wiseguy and Highlander The Series where he got to show off his enormous R&B talent as Joe Dawson - Watcher and Bar owner. He recently reprised his role as Joe in the 2000 movie Highlander:Endgame. He currently does a daily variety show called "The Jim Byrnes Show" and is working on several music projects including one with Highlander co alumni Don Paonessa.

He was inducted into the British Columbia Entertainment Hall of Fame in 1995.

In 1996, he won both a Juno award (Canada's Grammy equivalent) for "That River" and a Leo award as Best Supporting Actor on Highlander.

 Jim currently resides in Vancouver with his second wife and child.
